Butler Defense Not Enough As Eastern Illinois Takes 3-1 Decision
Sept. 8, 2006 Macomb, Ill. - The Butler volleyball team once again put forth a stringent defensive effort, but it would not be enough as Eastern Illinois sent the Bulldogs to a 3-1 defeat at the Western Illinois Invitational on Friday (Sept. 8) evening. Butler out-blocked the Panthers, 10-3, in the four-game match, but Eastern Illinois used .248 hitting to claim the 30-24, 30-14, 25-30, 30-19 decision.
Senior Krystal Hendrix paced the Bulldogs with 12 kills and a .265 hitting percentage and added four blocks. Junior Michelle DeGeeter chipped in 11 kills and four blocks of her own.
"Krystal and Michelle really carried us offensively and provided a great foundation for us defensively," head coach Sharon Clark said. "Eastern Illinois is just a solid team, and I think our inexperience showed against their fast-paced offense. We just have to rebound and come back and play tomorrow."
Butler takes on host Western Illinois on Saturday (Sept. 9) at 12:00 noon CT before battling DePaul at 5:00 p.m. CT.
