Bailey Wins Two Matches at ITA Midwest Region Championships

Oct. 25, 2005

Butler finished off the fall campaign last weekend, participating in the Wilson/ITA Midwest Region Championships at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. Senior Tayo Bailey won one singles match in the qualifying rounds before teaming with classmate Alaina Griffin to win a first-round doubles match in the main draw.

Bailey topped Xavier's Jackie Vilines, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, before falling to Michigan's Allie Shafner in straight sets. Bailey and Griffin defeated Northwestern's duo of Jamie Pesiel and Alexis Conill, 8-4, in the opening round of play. The Bulldogs then dropped a tight 8-6 match to second-seeded Sarah Batty and Laura McGaffigan of Indiana. In singles action in the main draw, Griffin fell 6-1, 6-2 to Northwestern's Georgia Rose.

In other Butler results, sophomore Kim Jenson dropped qualifying singles matches to Stephanie Farrar of Ball State and Ohio State's Kristin Messmer. Jenson and Carrie Rachon lost to Michigan's Shafner and Kara Delicata in the first round of main draw doubles.

The ITA Regionals finished off the fall schedule for the Bulldogs. The spring dual match season begins Saturday, Jan. 21 at Purdue. The team's first home match is Friday, Jan. 27 when Indiana State visits.
