Bulldogs Advance to Horizon League Semis with 4-0 Win Over Detroit

April 23, 2005

Third-seeded Butler dropped sixth-seeded Detroit, 4-0, in the opening round of the Horizon League Championships Saturday afternoon at the Indianapolis Racquet Club. Butler won the doubles point and then the top three singles matches to clinch the victory. The Bulldogs return to action Sunday.

The Bulldogs advance to face second-seeded Youngstown State Sunday at noon. The Penguins won a tight 4-3 decision last weekend in Ohio. Sunday's match will take place at the Butler Tennis Bubble, as bad weather has sent both the men's and women's tournaments from North Central High School's complex to several indoor facilities around Indianapolis.

If Butler were to advance in the semifinals Sunday, the championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Carmel Racquet Club, just north of Indianapolis. The consolation portion of the bracket has been cancelled.
