Butler Softball Team Announces Fall Schedule
Sept. 7, 2004 The Butler softball team will prepare for its spring season with an abbreviated fall schedule that includes two tournaments during the month of September. The slate calls for nine games against a variety of in-state opponents. The Bulldogs begin play at the IUPUI Tournament, Sept. 18-19, with games against Indianapolis, St. Mary's of the Woods, Indiana State, and a yet to be named opponent. The following weekend, Butler travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for a tournament at Indiana State University. On Sept. 25, the Bulldogs will face IUPUI and Indiana, before squaring off once again with St. Mary's of The Woods on the 26th, followed by Southern Indiana and Parkland Junior College. Coach Tom Spencer returns 12 letterwinners, including National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) "All-Mideast Region" first team selection Melissa Lemrick from last season's squad. Freshmen Nikki Naffziger and Tara Long highlight six newcomers, after teaming up to lead Indianapolis Lutheran to the IHSAA Class A championship last spring.
