Amy Hyerczyk Named To All-League Team

May 9, 2007

Junior Amy Hyerczyk, who's having the best offensive season of her collegiate career, was one of just two Butler players honored on the All-Horizon League softball team, which was announced at the League's pre-tournament banquet in Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday, May 9. Butler freshman Bridget Paine also was recognized on the All-League squad.

Hyerczyk, one of the top hitters in the league, was tabbed second team All-League by a vote of the conference softball coaches. A year ago, the Butler first baseman earned first team All-League recognition. Paine, Butler's starting shortstop, was picked to the league's All-Newcomer squad.

Hyerczyk is one of just five players in the league boasting a .400 batting average. She stands fourth in the league in hitting with a .414 average heading into the 2007 Horizon League Championship, which begins on Thursday (May 10) at Cleveland State. She leads the league in doubles (15) and ranks second in total hits (60).

Paine is currently the Bulldogs' second-leading hitter with a .320 average. She's second on the team in home runs with five and in runs batted in with 24. She's been a starter in 44 games.

Sarah Clynes of UIC and Kaleigh Rafter of Detroit were named league Co-Players of the Year, while Amy Solava of Loyola was named the league's Pitcher of the Year. Jherica Williams of Wright State was tabbed Newcomer of the Year, and Yvette Healy of league-leading Loyola was named Coch of the Year.

Butler will begin play in the Horizon League Championship against No. 3-seed UW-Green Bay on Thursday at 11 a.m. (EST). The League Championship is a double-elimination tournament.
