Melissa Franzosi Named Butler Assistant Softball Coach
August 21, 2001 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Melissa Franzosi, former standout pitcher at Rosemont College (Pa.), has been named assistant softball coach at Butler University. She is replacing assistant coach Jenny Deno who resigned from her position after the 2001 season. Prior to coming to Butler, Franzosi was the head seventh grade softball coach at Fulton Junior High in Indianapolis. There she was in charge of planning daily practices, teaching sportsmanship and organizing and scheduling games. Franzosi has served as a volunteer softball pitching coach for Ben Davis Little League and was a volunteer softball clinic coach for Ben Davis High School during January of 2001. She received her ASEP certification in May of 2001. "Based on her previous experiences, I look for Melissa to elevate our pitchers to the next level," said Butler's head softball coach Dirk Welch. In addition to helping the Bulldogs' pitching staff, Franzosi will aid in recruiting, team travel and scouting. While at Rosemont College, Franzosi was a four-year varsity letterwinner and a two-time captain of the softball team. She was cited as a member of her conference's all-star team her senior year. Franzosi was also a member of the Rambler's varsity field hockey team, in which she was selected as a conference all-star in 1998. A native of Audubon, N.J., Franzosi graduated Cum Laude with B.A. degree in political science from Rosemont College in 2000. While there, she was a student ambassador, a member of the Intercollegiate Athletic Council, named to the Who's Who Among College Students list and a member of the school's honor society. |
