Bulldogs End Season With 11-6 Loss To Loyola
May 9, 2003
CLEVELAND -- Top-seeded Loyola used a six-run first inning to help pull of an 11-6 win over No. 5 Butler Friday afternoon at Cleveland State's Viking Field. The loss eliminates the Bulldogs from the Horizon League Tournament, as they finish their season with an 18-31 record. Butler took an early 1-0 lead, but the Ramblers regrouped quickly, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding 6-1 lead. The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 6-5, but No. 1 Loyola halted the rally by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and never let Butler threaten again. Jamie Bradley paced the Bulldogs with a 2-for-4 effort from the plate, which included a double and a pair of RBI. Melissa Lemrick added a pair of hits and a run scored and senior Jeri Keller went 1-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. Her one run gave her 33 on the season and broke the school's single single record, previously held by Kris Atkin (1990). Meghan Howard was tagged with the loss, allowing seven earned runs while striking out two in her 6.0 innings of work. Loyola advances on to play No. 3 UIC tonight at 5 p.m. |
