UW-Green Bay Takes Doubleheader from Butler

Host UW-Green Bay jumped out to early leads in both ends of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Phoenix Field against Butler to take two wins. The Phoenix won the first game 7-1 before taking the nightcap 6-3. UWGB improves to 12-19 overall and 9-10 in the Horizon League with the two wins, while Butler falls to 17-27-1 and 4-15.

The Phoenix scored in five different innings and Lisa Meissner carried a shutuout into the seventh inning in the game one victory. UW-Green Bay got on the board with a pair of runs off Butler starter Nikki Naffziger in the third. UWGB built on its lead by pushing across solo tallies in each of the next two innings.

Freshman Annie Dolan had two of the team's five hits and scored Butler's lone run. Tara Long knocked in Dolan in the top of the seventh inning.

The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as Ali Rostkowski scored Anna Nieznanski from second with a two-out single to right off Jamie Wonderly. Rostkowski continued her big day in the third by launching her second home run of the season - a two-run shot - to extend the UW-Green Bay edge to 3-0.

Butler scored its three runs on just five hits in the second game. Junior JoAnna Gonzalez had two hits and scored a run for the Bulldogs.
 

 

The teams close out the three-game series and the 2006 regular season with a single game Monday at 1 p.m.
