Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
Butler dropped both ends of a doubleheader to host Cleveland State Saturday afternoon, losing the first game, 4-2, before the Vikings claimed the nightcap, 7-0. With the wins, CSU improves to 27-9 overall and 8-4 in the Horizon League, while extending its winning streak to seven games. Butler falls to 15-23-1 (2-11). Cleveland State enjoyed a 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs in the first game before Butler mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh inning. JoAnna Gonzalez led off with a single, but was erased on a fielder's choice that put Jenny Jacobs on. Amy Hyerczyk doubled in Jacobs and Jill Meinhold plated Hyerczyk with an RBI single before Cleveland State's Grace Luginbuhl got the final out. Butler's Jamie Wonderly allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings of work, falling to 5-11 on the season. Luginbuhl (17-5) did not walk a batter and allowed just five Butler hits. Kortney Spidell stymied the Bulldogs in the second game, allowing just two Butler hits. Lindsay Schluge and Jacobs had the base-knocks for the Bulldogs. The Vikings got to Butler starter Meghan Howard (7-8) for 10 hits and all seven runs. CSU's Michele Penney went 3-for-4 at the plate, including two home runs, with four RBIs.
Gonzalez served as the designated player in both contests, returning from an injury that kept her out of the line-up since March 26. Freshman Katie Bell played shortstop in the second game, returning from injury as well. The teams meet Sunday at 1 p.m. for the finale of the three-game series. |
