Bulldogs Take Game One in 11 Innings
April 17, 2004
Butler triumphed over Loyola Saturday in Game One of the day's double-header. Loyola took an early lead, 1-0, in the first inning with a single up the middle. The Bulldogs fought back and managed a single run in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a homerun by senior Cameo Wrasse.
The teams were tied at one for only a short time, as the Ramblers' DH slammed one over the fence in the sixth. The Bulldogs answered that run with a single by freshman JoAnna Gonzalez that brought home freshman outfielder Jill Meinhold.
With the game tied at two, senior Melissa Benter held the Ramblers to six hits and no runs through the eleventh inning. Gonzalez started the Bulldogs' bats with a single to shortstop, and was brought home by an error from the Loyola infield. This ended the match-up with three Bulldog runs over Loyola's two. Scoreless through the first three innings of Game Two, the Bulldogs kept the Ramblers at bay with pitching from freshman Jamie Wonderly. A single from Meinhold in the bottom of the fourth brought pinch runner Amber Cox across home plate for the score. Two outs later, Loyola came up to bat and answered Butler's one run with four of their own. Butler was unable to put another run on the board and Loyola took Game Two 7-1. The Bulldogs take on Loyola in Game Three of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. in Indianapolis. |
