Seventh-Inning Heroics Earn Bulldogs a Split
April 7, 2004 The Bulldogs used a rally in the bottom of the seventh of the nightcap of their doubleheader with Eastern Illinois to salvage a split Wednesday. Butler is now 8-26 on the season and take their 3-2 Horizon League record to UW-Green Bay this weekend. In Game Two, senior Cameo Wrasse walked with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to push Jill Meinhold across for a 3-2 win. Meinhold had gotten on with a double and was sacrificed to third. After a Butler out, pinch-hitters Angie Johnson and Jamie Wonderly walked to load the bases before Wrasse watched a 3-1 pitch go by for her RBI pass. Senior Jamie Bradley got the Bulldogs on the board in the bottom of the first frame with a two-run homerun. Sophomore Meghan Howard went the distance for the Bulldogs, allowing two EIU runs in the top of the sixth. Howard scattered 10 hits and struck out three batters.
In the first game of the twinbill, Eastern Illinois got three runs in the first inning and five in the second en route to an 8-0 shutout. Jennifer Sundin pitched four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits. JoAnna Gonzalez, Jess Stephens and Wrasse had the three Bulldog hits.
