Butler Drops Non-League Game At Purdue
April 3, 2007
Senior righthanded pitcher Brooke Baker limited Butler to just four hits while leading host Purdue to a 6-0 victory in the rain-delayed first game of a non-league doubleheader at the Purdue Varsity Softball Complex in West Lafayette on Tuesday (April 3). The second game was cancelled because of the weather. The two team waited two and a half hours to begin the doubleheader, because of heavy storms that passed through central Indiana. Once the game did start, Baker took control. She retired the first seven batters she faced and allowed just two hits in the first five innings. She posted her 25th complete game of the season and her seventh shutout! The Boilermakers (19-24-1) took the lead for good on a leadoff home run by Kelsey Haupert in the bottom of the second inning. Purdue added two more runs in the third frame, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Butler starter Jamie Wonderly pitched the first two innings and suffered her fourth loss in ten decisions. Freshman Jennifer Chasteen pitched three and a third innings, while freshman Kristen Malinkey threw two-thirds of an inning. Senior Jill Meinhold had Butler's first hit in the top of the third inning, while freshman Bridget Paine added a double to centerfield in the fourth inning. Senior JoAnna Zumbrun and junior Amy Hyerczyk had Butler's other two hits.
Butler (13-12) will host Evansville in a non-league doubleheader at Midwest Sports Complex in Indianapolis on Wednesday, April 4. The first game is slated to start at 2 p.m. |
