Bulldogs Drop Two At Orlando Rebel Games

March 15, 2002

KISSIMMEE, FLA. - The Butler softball team dropped a pair of games on Thursday (Mar. 14) at the Orlando Rebel Games. The Bulldogs lost to Monmouth 8-4 in the morning game and were limited to just one hit in a 7-0 loss to Central Florida.

The Hawks blasted Butler for six runs in the first inning, en route to their 8-4 victory. Butler attempted to make a comeback in the sixth inning, tallying three runs, but it wasn't enough as Monmouth held on for the win. Freshman Lynn Hohs took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Central Florida also used a big inning to oust Butler, scoring five runs in the top of the second. The Golden Knights added two insurance runs in the next inning and Dottie Cupp's one-hitter stifled the Bulldogs' offensive attempts. Junior Melissa Benter fell to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

Butler will take on Wagner (4:10 p.m.) and Bucknell (7:50) on Friday, before wrapping up play at the Rebel Games against Ole Miss and Vermont on Saturday.
