Pike Named League Player of the Week

Oct. 27, 2003

Fresh off a two-goal performance Sunday against Detroit, Amy Pike has been named the Horizon League "Player of the Week" for the week of Oct. 27. The senior from Indianapolis currently leads the league with eight goals and 21 points.

In her last two Horizon League matches, Pike has recorded four goals. Her three game-winning goals on the season are tied for third in the league.

Pike was one of four seniors recognized prior to Butler's match Sunday. The match was Butler's final one at Varsity Field for the 2003 campaign. Pike and fellow seniors Krista Rott, Annie Doerr and Amber Stauch have recorded 43 wins in their three-plus years at Butler.

Pike is the third Bulldog to capture the league honor, following sophomore midfielder Meredith Buemi (Sept. 2) and junior goalkeeper Katie Sanders (Oct. 6).

With Sunday's 5-0 win over Detroit, the Bulldogs (8-7-2, 4-2) clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming league tournament. Butler will open the tournament Thursday, Nov. 7 against the No. 7 seed. Loyola is this season's tournament host.

Prior to traveling to Chicago for the league tournament, the Bulldogs will play at No. 15 Illinois Friday at 7 p.m.
