Sanders Named Player of the Week
Oct. 6, 2003 Katie Sanders has been named Horizon League "Player of the Week" for the week of October 6, the league announded today. The junior helped the Bulldogs to a pair of shutouts, making 15 saves in 178 minutes in goal. For the week, the Bulldogs tied IPFW, 0-0, in Ft. Wayne, then turned around and defeated Horizon League rival Youngstown State, 4-0, to end a four-game winless stretch. Sanders started both games, playing all 110 minutes against IPFW and the first 68 minutes against the Penguins before giving way to freshman Megan Cappa with a 2-0 lead. Sanders leads the Horizon League with a 0.77 goals against average. She has made 33 saves and allowed only six goals in 11 matches. Her .846 save percentage is second in the league and the Tucson, Ariz. product has been a part of five Butler shutouts. She is the second Butler player to earn Horizon League "Player of the Week" honors, following sophomore midfielder Meredith Buemi's recognition for the week of Sept. 2. |
