Bulldogs Put 2-2 Record Up Against Kent State Sunday
Sept. 10, 2004 Click here to view the full release as a PDF KICKING IT OFF: The Bulldogs (2-2) cap a three-game homestand Sunday when they welcome Mid-American combatant Kent State to Victory Field for a 1 p.m. match. The Golden Flashes are undefeated at 3-0-1 entering a Friday match at Akron. The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-0 win over Indiana State Sunday, Sept. 5, to level their 2004 record. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. MAKING THE FIRST ONE COUNT: Sophomore Marcie Stucky's goal ten minutes into Sunday's match held up as the Bulldogs dropped Indiana State, 1-0. The goal was Stucky's first of her college career. The Bulldogs had a season-high 32 shots in the contest and improved to 2-2 on the season. Sunday's loss was the first blemish on the Sycamores' record, as ISU falls to 2-1. Stucky collected a loose ball in front of the net and scored at the 9:55 mark off a corner kick from sophomore Caitlin Gill. Junior Meredith Buemi led the home team with seven shots, while Gill and senior Rachel Pivarnik each took five shots on the afternoon.
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Freshman goalkeeper Annalise Larkin picked up her first collegiate win in the Bulldogs' 1-0 triumph over Indiana State Sunday. The Carmel, Ind., native has been impressive in her first two weeks on the college level, registering a 0.73 goals against average. She didn't allow a goal in her first 90 minutes of collegiate action, a span of two matches. QUICK SHOTS: Stucky also assisted on the game-winning goal in the Bulldogs' other victory this season, serving up the assist on Kate Lord's goal against Xavier...Freshman defender Sarah Pavlik suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Bulldogs' season-opener against Louisville. Butler will apply for a medical redshirt on Pavlik's behalf, and if granted, the Westlake, Ohio native will have four years of eligibility remaining, beginning in 2005...The Bulldogs are currently 1-1 on their three-game homestand. Butler has another three-game homestand scheduled for Oct. 6-11...Butler leads the Horizon League in both fewest goals allowed (three) and goals against average (0.75 GAA), while ranking third in shots at 12.8 per contest. BULLDOGS PICKED SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL: The eight head coaches of the Horizon League have selected Butler to finish second in the upcoming women's soccer season, the Horizon League announced Tuesday (Aug. 17). The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was voted the favorite. UW-Milwaukee received 47 points, including six of a possible seven first-place votes, in a poll voted on by the League's eight head coaches. Butler finished in second place with 41 points, including one of the eight first-place votes. The Bulldogs were followed by Detroit with 35. Coaches could not vote for their own squads. |
