Butler Finishes Spring Undefeated with 4-0 Win over DePauw

April 17, 2005

Butler capped its undefeated spring season Saturday with a 4-0 win over DePauw in the third annual Indiana Soccer Showcase at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis. Junior Meredith Buemi and sophomore Kristin Harnest each scored two goals in the Butler victory. The Bulldogs finished the spring schedule with a record of 7-0-1.

DePauw finished the 2004 season ranked 18th in Division III and went to the Final Four in 2003.

Butler entered the intermission up 1-0 after being unable to take advantage of several good scoring chances in the first half. The scoring picked up in the second half with three goals.

"We played well the whole game, but had trouble finishing at times," said coach Woody Sherwood. "I'm really pleased with how we performed this spring and hopefully this translates into even more success in the fall."

The 7-0-1 record marks the first undefeated spring season in Butler history.

Butler is scheduled to open the fall 2005 regular season August 26 at Louisville. The Bulldogs return 19 letterwinners from the 2004 squad and will add six newcomers to the group.
