Bulldogs Remain Undefeated with 1-1 Tie Against Ball State
April 13, 2005 Butler remained unbeaten in spring play after posting a 1-1 tie against in-state rival Ball State Wednesday evening at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Sophomore Marianne Schilling scored off a Meredith Buemi assist before the Cardinals countered with a fluke goal in the game's closing minutes. Butler now stands at 6-0-1 with one spring contest remaining. "Ball State is definitely one of the top teams we've played all spring," said coach Woody Sherwood. "It's disappointing to give up a fluke goal with about 10 minutes to go, but we played well for most of the match. We're excited to finish up the spring season this weekend." With Butler ahead 1-0, a Ball State player tried to serve the ball into the box from about 40 yards out, only to hit the ball too hard and send it into a 15 mile-per-hour wind. Butler's goalkeeper took an incorrect line and the ball snuck in to tie the game at one. That's how the contest ended. Ball State's score was just the second goal allowed by Butler during the spring. The Bulldogs have countered with 12 goals of their own. The team closes out spring action Saturday at 4:45 p.m. against DePauw at Kuntz Stadium. The match is part of the third annual Soccer Showcase, which will also feature Butler's men's team.
