Bulldogs Continue Strong Spring with 1-0-2 Showing

March 27, 2006

Butler continued its impressive spring slate over the weekend, posting a win and two ties against competition at the Butler Bowl in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs defeated IUPUI and played to a draw against both Southern Indiana and Miami (Ohio). The teams played 60-minute matches Saturday (March 25).

Freshman Lauren Haffner scored for the Bulldogs in their 1-0 win over IUPUI. Haffner missed the fall season with a knee injury, but has rebounded well in the spring, scoring three goals already. Sophomore Annalise Larkin started in goal against the Jaguars.

Junior Megan Cappa notched the shutout against Southern Indiana, but the Bulldogs were also held scoreless, including being unable to convert a penalty kick. Sophomore Kirby Zwickel was in goal against Miami, as the teams played to a 1-1 draw. Freshman Crystal Wright scored the Butler goal against the RedHawks after being set up by Laura Miller's header off a corner kick.

"It was a great effort today," said Butler coach Woody Sherwood. "To play 180 minutes of soccer with one substitute was challenging, but we played pretty well."

Sherwood mixed things up in the final match of the day, rotating his field players clockwise one position every eight minutes or so against Miami (Ohio).

The Bulldogs return to action April 8, playing DePauw at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis. The match is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
