Woody Sherwood Resigns as Butler Women's Soccer Head Coach
March 14, 2006 Butler women's soccer head coach Woody Sherwood has resigned his position to become an assistant coach at the University of Louisville. Sherwood leaves Butler after seven seasons, where he posted a 63-64-10 record and led the team to two Horizon League second place finishes. "Woody did a wonderful job in his seven years at Butler University," said John Parry, Butler's athletic director. "His teams were always prepared and competed hard. We wish him all the best at Louisville." The Bulldogs' mark of 15-6 in 2002 set a new school record for single-season wins and earned Sherwood Horizon League "Coach of the Year" honors. Sherwood arrived at Butler after two seasons as the head coach at Towson University in Maryland. His overall record as a head coach is 85-81-12. Butler posted an 8-10-2 record in 2005, advancing to the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament. Nine of the team's 11 starters are set to return for the 2006 campaign. A national search for Sherwood's successor will begin immediately.
