Morrison, Drogell Selected to 2001 Verizon Academic All-District Team

Jan. 10, 2002

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Amy Morrison and Kristin Drogell are two of the ten members selected to represent District V on the 2001 Verizon Academic All-American ballot, CoSIDA announced today. The pair, which helped lead the Butler women's soccer team to a school record 13-7 mark during the 2001 season, were voted onto the Verizon Academic All-District V Women's Soccer team by sports information officials across the nation. "Both girls have done an excellent job in the classroom considering their challenging majors, and are very deserving of this award," said head coach Woody Sherwood.

Morrison, a junior from Plano, Texas, started in all 20 games this season for Butler as a forward. She led the Bulldogs in goals (12), assists (14) and points (38) and took a team-high 66 shots on the season. Her 14 assists set a new single-season record, as did her 38 points. She ranks fourth all time in goals (27), assists (19) and points (73). Morrison was named to the 2001 Horizon League Academic All-League team and was named to the first team all-league in 2000 and 2001. As a pre-medicine major, Morrison boasts a 3.57 GPA.

"Amy has an uncommon ability to be able to score equally well with either foot as well as being able to dominate in the air," stated Sherwood.

Drogell, who also started in all 20 games for Butler this season, recorded two goals and three assists during the 2001 campaign for a total of seven points. The junior midfielder from Medina, Ohio was a member of the 2001 Horizon League Academic All-League team. She holds a 3.90 GPA as a biology major.

"Drogell is an unsung hero in the midfield," said Sherwood. "The statistics don't tell the story behind all of her hard work on the field."

Other members of the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District V Women's Soccer Team were: Megan Anderson (Northern Illinois), Devon Bissell (Eastern Illinois), Elizabeth Boldt (Purdue), Monica Gonzalez (Notre Dame), Amanda Guertin (Notre Dame), Katie Klaas (Northern Illinois), Susie McCreery (Northwestern), Vanessa Pruzkinsky (Notre Dame) and Mia Sarkesian (Notre Dame).
