Lord, Morrison Receive All-Region Honors

Feb. 7, 2003

INDIANAPOLIS - Kate Lord was named to the Great Lakes Region All-Freshman Team and Amy Morrison capped off her four-year career with the Butler women's soccer team by being selected to the Second Team All-Great Lakes Region, announced soccerbuzz.com on Thursday (Feb. 6). Lord was also cited to the website's Second Team All-American Freshman squad. The soccerbuzz.com awards were voted on by Division 1 coaches across America.

"It's great for Amy and Kate to be recognized by the coaches around the region," said head coach Woody Sherwood. "Amy capped off her career with a record-setting year and Kate began what we hope will be a tremendous four years."

Lord was one of 15 freshmen named to the Great Lakes Region All-Freshman team, and was the lone Horizon League selection. Dividing her time between midfielder and defender, Lord became only the second Butler player to receive the league's Freshman of the Year award. The Brighton, Mich. native was also named to the First Team All-Horizon League. She started and played in 18 of the team's 21 games and recorded one assist on the season.

Morrison, who was named the 2002 Horizon League Player of the Year, ended her career at Butler by leading the way on nearly every one of the Bulldogs' offensive charts. The Dallas, Texas native set the all-time records for points (118) and goals scored (46). Her 26 assists also ranks second on Butler's career list. Morrison holds the single game (4) and season (19) record for goals scored as well as leading the single season lists in assists (14) and shots (96).

Morrison excelled off the field as well, as her high marks in the classroom earned her a place on the Verizon Academic All-District V team, along with teammate Kristen Drogell. Morrison was also a Second Team Academic All-American selection.

The Bulldogs took another step closer this past season to reaching the NCAA Tournament by posting a 15-6 record. The 15 wins set a new single-season mark, eclipsing last year's record of 13-7. Butler also posted a 5-1 mark in league action, which was the best finish since the 1996 campaign. The Bulldogs' .714 winning percentage this season was the best in the program's 12-year history.

Butler will begin its spring season on February 22 when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. to take on the Hoosiers.
