Lauren Showers Completes Opening Round of U. S. Women's Amateur

Aug. 7, 2007

Lauren Showers, who will be heading into her junior year at Butler University, shot an opening round 75 in the 2007 U. S. Women's Amateur Championship, which began on Monday (Aug. 6) at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. Showers, who's from Kokomo, turned in the top score among competitors with Indiana connections.

The start of play at the U. S. Women's Amateur was delayed by the threat of lightning, and play was suspended twice in the late afternoon and evening. But Showers was among the players who were able to complete their round. She shot a 38 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine for her three-over-par total. She was tied for 33rd among players who finished the first round.

The second round of stroke play is scheduled for Tuesday (Aug. 7). Following the second round, the field will be cut to 64 players and the tournament will continue with a match play format.
