Lauren Showers Places Third At State Amateur Championship

July 20, 2007

Lauren Showers, a member of the Butler University women's golf team, shot a four-over-par 220 and finished in a four-way tie for third place at the Indiana Women's Golf Association State Amateur Championship held at Battleground Golf Club near Lafayette, Ind., July 16-18. The 54-hole tournament attracted nearly 100 golfers.

Showers opened with back-to-back rounds of one-over-par 73 and then posted a 74 in the final round for her three-day total. She wound up tied with Lina Pasquali, Michelle Morgan and Tara Boone, six strokes behind state champ Julia Potter. Ellen Mueller finished runner-up with a final score of even par 216.

Lauren's sister Lynnsey, also a Butler golfer, tied for 34th in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 237. Lynnsey shot an opening round 75, but then slipped to 82 and 80 in the final two rounds.

Lauren and Lynnsey Showers both are heading into their third season on the Butler women's golf team this fall. Lauren earned All-Horizon League honors for the Bulldogs last season, while Lynnsey, a two-time Horizon League Player of the Year, sat out the 2006-07 campaign.
