Butler Wins IPFW Fall Classic

Junior Lynnsey Showers carded a 13-over-par 226 to capture individual medalist honors and led Butler to its third consecutive tournament title with a first place team finish at the IPFW Fall Classic held in Fort Wayne on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18. The Bulldogs finished 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Oakland in the nine-team field. Showers grabbed the individual lead with rounds of 75 and one-over-par 72 on the first day of the tournament and then held on with a 79 in the final round of the 54-hole tournament. She finished the tournament with four birdies and 32 pars. The Butler medalist finished two strokes ahead of runner-up Mandi Dupuis of Detroit. Four other Butler players finished among the Top 15 individuals in the tournament. Sophomore Paige McCracken came in sixth overall with a final score of 230 (79-74-77), while junior Sarah Swanson came in seventh with a total of 231 (79-76-76). Sophomore Niki Garden tied for 11th at 236 (80-75-81) and freshman Lauren Showers wound up tied for 13th at 237 (81-77-79). The Bulldogs topped the tournament in par-3 scoring, par-4 scoring and par-5 scoring! Lynnsey Showers led all individuals in par-4 scoring (+8) and tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring (-1). Garden was second in par-3 scoring (+3). The first place trophy was Butler's third straight this fall. Earlier, the Butler women captured team titles at the Ball State Cardinal Classic and the Northern Illinois Huskie Invitational.
