Oct. 17, 2006

Sophomore Lauren Showers tied for third place in the final individual competition and Butler wound up third in the team standings at the rain-shortened IPFW Fall Classic held at Deer Track Golf Course in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Monday, Oct. 16. The nine-team tournament was stopped after the first day because of heavy rains and unplayable conditions.

Showers shot a three-over-par 74 in the opening round. She carded a 34 on the front nine and then closed with a 40 to tie with Melissa Gaus of Dayton for third place, five strokes behind medalist Austin McDermaid of Oakland. Showers led the tournament with 13 pars.

Junior Paige McCracken tied for eighth place with a 77, while junior Niki Garden tied for 17th with an 80. Senior Sarah Swanson tied for 31st with an 84 and sophomore Ashlen Christie tied for 46th with an 89.

Butler also had two players entered as non-scoring individuals in the tournament. Senior Amanda Moreman tied for 39th place with an 86, while junior Amy Stafford finished 51st with a 92.

Butler's team score of 315 was seven strokes behind team champ Bradley and five strokes shy of runner-up Oakland. Detroit (321) finished fourth, followed by Loyola (322), Dayton (325), host IPFW (327), IUPUI (327) and Younsgtown State (331).
