Butler Finishes Seventh At EKU Invitational

Senior Melanie Macleod shot a final round one-over-par 73 and helped lift Butler to a seventh place team finish at the 14-team Eastern Kentucky University Fall Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12. The defending champion Bulldogs began the final round at Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, Ky., in 12th place.

Macleod had the third best individual score on the final day. She moved up from a tie for sixth place after the first round to a tie for fourth place in the final individual standings with a 36-hole score of 148. Jenny Schnipke of Bowling Green, who shot the meet's best final round with a 70, was tournament medalist with a two-day score of 145.

Butler also picked up a solid effort from junior Wendy Jo Kramer, who followed her first round 77 with a final round 76 to tie for 11th place. Kramer's final total of 153 was eight strokes off the pace.

Senior Kristi Laskowski carded a final round 79 and finished in a tie for 38th with a two-day score of 163. Rounding out Butler's top five were freshman Abby Seger, who improved 12 strokes on the final day with an 81 and finished at 174, and sophomore Joni Reynolds, who added a final round 88 to her first round 94.

Western Kentucky won the tournament with a two-day total of 616, one stroke better than runner-up Ohio University. The Bulldogs improved by 20 strokes on the final day, carding a 309, and finished with a 36-hole total of 638.

The EKU Fall Invitational was Butler's final tournament of the 2002 fall season.
