Torn ACL Sidelines Junior Gina Grussing for Remainder of Season

Feb. 1, 2005

Junior forward Gina Grussing will miss the remainder of the 2004-05 basketball season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee, Butler women's basketball coach Beth Couture announced Tuesday (Feb. 1). Grussing suffered the injury in practice last week. She will undergo surgery in the next few weeks and should be ready for the 2005-06 campaign.

"Losing Gina for the rest of the season is a huge loss to us at this point," said Couture. "She was really getting comfortable in our system and was in our rotation as the first post player off the bench. We're going to miss her athleticism and intensity. We're confident that Gina will work hard in her rehab and be ready to enjoy a successful senior season."

Grussing appeared in the team's first 18 games, including two contests in the Bulldogs' starting lineup. The junior college transfer, in her first year at Butler, averaged 13.2 minutes, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 points per game. She set career-highs of six points and 10 rebounds Dec. 21 in the Bulldogs' win over IPFW. Grussing arrived at Butler from Parkland Junior College in Illinois, where she played two seasons.

Butler, 8-10 overall and 2-6 thus far in Horizon League play, returns to the court Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against league foe Detroit.
