Gill Earns League Honor for Second Time This Season

April 14, 2004

For the second time this season, senior Kevin Gill has been named the Horizon League Men's Tennis "Player of the Week." Gill also received accolades March 24, joining other Bulldog recipients Andy Bartish (Feb. 18) and Brandon Gill (Mar. 31).

Gill led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last week, including a dominating 6-1 win over league foe UIC Friday. The Indianapolis, Ind., native went undefeated, winning two matches at No. 1 singles and one match at No. 1 doubles. Friday against the Flames, Gill teamed with his brother Brandon, for an 8-5 win at the top doubles spot. Gill then defeated the Flames' top man, Artsem Burmistrau, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7). Saturday against DePaul, Gill rolled over the Blue Demons' Robert Kotroczo, 6-1, 6-3. The teams did not play the doubles round since the final outcome had already been decided.

For the spring season, the reigning league "Player of the Year" is 11-8 in singles play and 12-6 in doubles. He is a perfect 8-0 in league matches.

Butler's men's team concludes its regular season Saturday at league foe Wright State. The Bulldogs have won eight straight matches and have yet to drop a singles match in any of their four league victories.
