Bulldogs Finish Fall Season at ITA Regionals

Oct. 26, 2003

Senior Kevin Gill won two matches at the ITA Midwest Championships, held earlier this week at Michigan State University. Gill, the tournament's No. 15 seed, advanced to the round of 16. In the opening round, Gill scored a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision over Adam Schacchterle of Northwestern and then followed that effort with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Michigan's Anthony Jackson.

Gill ran into the tournament's top seed, Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State, in the round of 16. Wurtzman ended Gill's tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Wurtzman, ranked No. 20 in the ITA's preseason poll, won the championship.

Gill and his brother, Brandon, were the No. 4 seed in doubles. After defeating Northwestern's team of Willy Lock and Ahmed Wahla, 8-6, in the first round, the brothers lost to Western Michigan's Brady Crosby and Ravi Pathanjali, 8-4, in the second round.

Junior Brandon Gill dropped his first round match to Michigan's Ryan Heller, 6-3, 6-4. Butler's second doubles team of Andy Bartish and James Low had to withdrawal from the tournament due to injury.

The ITA Midwest Championships conclude Butler's fall schedule. Their Horizon League schedule begins in the spring.
