Butler Claims Fifth Straight Horizon League Title
April 23, 2006
Butler won its fifth consecutive Horizon League men's tennis title, besting second-seeded UIC, 4-1, Sunday morning at the North Central High School courts in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs, who entered the tournament as the top seed, won the doubles point and then got singles wins from James Low (No. 2), Parker Ross (No. 3) and Evan West (No. 5) to take the win. The championship is Butler's eighth in the last nine seasons. Low, who along with Brandon Gill, Ross and Andy Bartish, earned All-Horizon League honors for the 2006 campaign, disposed of UIC's Paul Glendenning, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Ross had an even easier time of it at No. 3 singles, topping Adriano Liccardo, 6-2, 6-3. West's win at No. 5 singles came by the score of 6-3, 6-1. The Bulldogs won the top two doubles spots to claim the doubles point. Butler is now 14-9 on the season and earns the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins May 12-14 at various campus sites. Men's Championship Match: Butler 4, UIC 1
