Evan West went 4-0 Saturday, leading the Bulldogs to a split of two matches against non-conference opponents at the Butler Bubble. The matches against IUPUI and Dayton opened the spring season for the Bulldogs. West won at the top singles spot against IUPUI and then defeated Dayton's Jon Khoury at the No. 4 singles spot. West also won both of his doubles matches.

Butler downed IUPUI, 4-3, before losing a tight match to the visiting Flyers, 4-3. The Bulldogs won the doubles point in both matches. Butler was without the services of three of its top players in Brandon Gill, Scott Newmark and James Low. Gill and Newmark will miss the entire fall season, while Low is expected to return to action in the next week or two.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday at Ohio State before taking on Indiana and Murray State Saturday in Bloomington, Ind.
