Butler Falls to No. 60 Indiana in Battle of Three-Set Matches
Jan. 21, 2006
Butler gave No. 60 Indiana all it wanted in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon in Bloomington. The nationally-ranked Hoosiers came away with a 5-2 win, but needed three sets to take four of their five singles wins. Senior Brandon Gill posted an impressive win at the No. 2 singles spot for Butler, which also captured the doubles point to start the match. Gill downed Dara McLoughlin, 7-6 (5), 6-3, at the No. 2 spot for Butler's lone singles win. James Low (No. 1), Andy Bartish (No. 3), Evan West (No. 5) and Scott Newmark (No. 6) all extended their singles matches to three sets before the Hoosiers could post wins. Butler's Bartish and Low teamed up to win, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point after Gill and Parker Ross took the No. 2 match, 8-5. The Bulldogs return to action Sunday at Western Michigan. No. 60 Indiana 5, Butler 2
