Bulldogs Face Cincinnati In A Non-League Test
Oct. 12, 2004 BACK TO BUSINESS: Butler (9-3-0, 3-0-0 HL) returns to action after getting a weekend off with a non-conference game at Cincinnati on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. (EDT). The Bulldogs will then put their perfect Horizon League record on the line against Loyola in a home match on Friday, Oct. 15. The contest at Varsity Field is slated for 3 p.m. The Ramblers are currently 0-3-0 in conference play and have a 1-10-1 overall record. RENEWED RIVALRY: The Bulldogs took on instate rival Evansville on Thursday Oct. 7, at Kuntz Stadium. Butler handled the Purple Aces, shutting them out 3-0. The Bulldogs took the lead in the 17th minute on a goal by senior Andrew Pancio. The win marked the eighth consecutive victory for Butler, extending the career-long win streak of coach Joe Sochacki.
MOVING ON UP: Senior Andrew Pancio notched his third goal of the season against Evansville and later added an assist in the game to move his career points total to 41. With the three points, Pancio now sits in tenth place on Butler's all-time scoring list. He stands fifth on Butler's all-time assist chart with 17 for his career. BULLDOG BITS: Butler has gained a spot in College Soccer News' Top 30 National Poll. The Bulldogs squeezed into this week's poll at No. 30...Junior Scott Olsen remained in second place in the Horizon League in scoring over the weekend with 19 points. Olsen leads the league in assists with five and is tied for second in the circuit in goals with seven. The match against the Aces marked the first time in five games that the Butler forward did not score a goal. He is also tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with four..Senior Cory Edgington scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season and the 15th and 16th of his career in Butler's victory over Evansville. With his six goals on the season, Edgington is now tied for sixth place in the league. He is tied for fourth in total points with ten...Junior Roberto Gallo added another assist against Evansville to put his season total at four. Gallo is now tied for second in the Horizon League behind his teammate Olsen...Sophomore goalkeeper Frank Peabody, starting in place of injured senior Evan Reinhardt, picked up his second collegiate shutout in Butler's victory over Evansville. He had four saves in the match. Peabody moved into second place in the conference with two son the year. The shutout also moved Butler into first place in the league with five team shutouts. Reinhardt, who sustained a broken arm in Butler's win at Xavier, will be sidelined indefinitely...Butler continues to lead the Horizon League in shots on goal with 166 and goals scored with 24.
