Bulldogs Close Out Seven-Match Road Stretch

ROAD TESTED: The men's soccer team at Butler will continue its 2004 "road show" with a pair of instate matches, including the team's shortest trip of the season. The Bulldogs (2-3), coming off a two-game trip to Florida, will wrap up a season-opening, seven-match road stretch with contests at Valparaiso on Friday, Sept. 17, and against IUPUI on Monday, Sept. 20. The match at Valparaiso is slated for 4:30 p.m. (EST) at the Crusaders' Eastgate Field, while the contest against IUPUI will be played at 7 p.m. (EST) at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis. Butler won't play its first "home" match until Sept. 23 and won't play a match on campus until Oct. 3!

TOURNAMENT SPLIT: Butler played two matches decided by a single goal in the UCF/adidas Kickoff Classic in Orlando, Fla., and came away from the four-team tournament with a 1-1 record. The Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision to Florida Atlantic in the opening round, when the Owls tallied the game-winner with less than seven minutes remaining. Two days later, Butler defeated host Central Florida, 2-1, in the tournament's final round. All five Butler matches this season have been decided by a single goal!
 

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Butler junior Roberto Gallo was named Horizon League Men's Soccer "Player of the Week" for his performance at the UCF/adidas Kickoff Classic. Gallo tied Butler's match against Florida Atlantic with a clutch goal at 81:21, but the Owls answered two minutes later to claim the decision. In the final round against Central Florida, Gallo scored Butler's decisive final goal at 76:11. The shot became the game-winner, when Central Florida scored a goal with less than a minute remaining.

BULLDOG BITS: Junior Scott Olsen had an assist on both Butler goals against Florida Atlantic and on Butler's second goal against Central Florida. The three assists gave him 12 for his career, moving him into a tie for 11th place on Butler's all-time assist chart. Olsen leads the team and is tied for fourth in the Horizon League in scoring with five points. The Butler junior is tied for the league lead in assists with three...Senior goalkeeper Evan Reinhardt had a season-high eight saves, while picking up the victory in Butler's win over Central Florida. He had ten saves in the two Florida matches, boosting him into sixth place on Butler's all-time saves list with 132 career stops. Reinhardt ranks third in the Horizon League in goals against average (1.34) and saves (20). He's tied for second in the league in save percentage (.800)...Senior David Wyrick scored his first 2004 goal in Butler's loss to Florida Atlantic...Senior Cory Edgington is tied for fifth in the Horizon League in shots with 12. He had six shots in Florida...Butler head coach Joe Sochacki received a "red card" in Butler's win over Central Florida, and he will sit out Butler's match at Valparaiso.
