Butler's Michael Mariscalco Drafted By The Dallas Burn

Jan. 20, 2003

Butler senior Michael Mariscalco was picked in the fifth round of the 2003 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the Dallas Burn on Friday, Jan. 17. He's the fourth player in Butler's men's soccer history to be drafted by a MLS team.

Mariscalco, who was the 45th player selected, finished his Butler career last fall as the Bulldogs' all-time leader in assists with 30. He wound up fourth on Butler's all-time list for points (100) and fifth on the Bulldogs' all-time list for goals scored (35). The talented midfielder, who was named first team Academic All-America in 2002, started every match of his four-year Butler career.

A first team All-Horizon League selection and a second team All-Great Lakes Region pick in 2002, Mariscalco finished his senior campaign with the third-highest single season assist total (10) in Butler history. He was Butler's second-leading scorer on the season with 28 points.

Mariscalco joins former Butler players Casey Sweeney, Jeremy Aldrich and Stephen Armstrong as a Major League Soccer draftee. Sweeney was taken by the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 1996, Aldrich went to the Miami Fusion in 1999 and Armstrong was picked by D. C. United in 2000.
