Bulldogs Fight For Tie at UW-Milwaukee

Oct. 9, 2006

Box Score

Butler went into extra minutes with its fourth consecutive Horizon League opponent Sunday, but neither the Bulldogs or UW-Milwaukee could net the game-winning score, with the game ending in a 2-2 tie after 90 minutes of regulation and a pair of 10 minute overtimes. The draw runs Butler's record to 4-8-2 on the season, 1-3-1 in Horizon League play.

"It was a great effort; we really deserved to win again today," Butler Head Coach Kelly Findley said. "We showed a lot of heart and passion to get it done. We deserved to win; but things are getting closer to what we want them to be."

Senior John DeVae netted both Butler goals. The Bulldogs struck first, with DeVae beating the defense and finding the back of the net on a 15-yard shot around the ten-minute mark.

The Panthers scored with less than ten minutes to play in the first half, on a score from Chris Lins. The second UWM goal came seven minutes into the second half, when Colin Baker turned a blocked shot into a short put in. DeVae then tallied his second goal just after the 65 minute mark on a loose ball in the box.

UW-Milwaukee held the slight advantage in both shots (15-11) and corner kicks (6-4) in the game. Senior Frank Peabody made six saves in his complete game effort.

"Again, it was a great team effort today, but two guys in particular stepped up," Findley said. "John DeVae scored two great goals and Frank Peabody made a game-saving stop."

The Bulldogs return home to Indianapolis this weekend, hosting Detroit at 3 p.m. Friday and then UIC at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Detroit match will be played at Varsity Field, while Butler will host UIC at the Butler Bowl.
