Oct. 9, 2006

Box Score

Senior John DeVae scored a pair of unassisted goals to help Butler to a 2-2 tie in overtime at UW-Milwaukee in a Horizon League men's soccer match on Sunday, Oct. 8. The match, Butler's third overtime contest of the week, left the Bulldogs with a 4-7-2 overall record and a 1-3-1 mark in league play.

DeVae gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead just over ten minutes into the match when he beat UW-Milwaukee's defense and nailed a shot from 12 yards out. He then tied the match in the 65th minute with his fourth goal of the season. The Butler forward picked up a loose ball and fired a shot past Panters' goalkeeper Grant Fernstrum from eight yards out.

UW-Milwaukee (4-8-2, 1-2-1 Horizon League) initially tied the match at 37:20 on a header by Chris Lins. The Panthers then took the lead at 52:50 on a tap-in by Colin Baker after a shot by Troy Spielmann was blocked.

Both teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods. Butler had two shots in the final overtime period, but both were wide. The Panthers had one shot on goal in the second overtime period, but goalkeeper Frank Peabody came up with the stop.

Peabody finished with six saves, including five in the second half and two overtime periods.
