Sept. 29, 2005

Box Score

Freshman Eduardo Garcia nailed the game-winning goal with less than 15 minutes remaining in the contest to lead visiting Butler to a 1-0 victory over Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The victory lifted the Bulldogs to 7-2 on the season, while Ohio State dropped to 5-3-1.

Garcia scored off a rebound at 76:33 for the game's only goal. It was his third of the season, and his second game-winner. Freshman Danny Akl took the initial shot on the scoring play, and when it bounced off the cross bar, Garcia was in place to nail the game-winner. Akl picked up his first collegiate assist on the crucial goal.

Butler's defense again carried the day. The Bulldogs faced 20 shots from the Buckeyes, including six shots on goal. Ohio State took seven shots in the final ten minutes, but the Bulldogs held off the late charge. Senior goalkeeper Frank Peabody stopped all six scoring attempts, while recording his fifth shutout in seven starts! The Bulldogs recorded their second consecutive shutout and their sixth on the year!

The Bulldogs, who out-shot the Buckeyes in the second half until the final 10 minutes, had four shots on goal in the match. Senior Scott Olsen, junior Tom Turner and sophonmore Jeremy Fox each added a shot on goal to Garcia's game-winner.

Ohio State entered the match with a #22 national ranking in the Soccer America poll. The Buckeyes were ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region, while Butler brought a #9 regional ranking.

The Bulldogs will begin Horizon League play on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Cleveland State.
