Exhibition match yields 1-1 tie for Bulldogs

Aug. 25, 2007

Box Score

The Bulldogs had several chances in the second half to come away with an exhibition win but couldn't close the deal against visiting Xavier and ended the match in a 1-1 tie.

Nearly 26 minutes into the match Xavier's John Enders headed a ball past Butler goalkeeper Fabian Knopfler to put the first tally of the day on the board.

But the Bulldogs responded to tie the match just five minutes later with a goal from junior Frank Patano. Patano received the ball from sophomore David Giarratana and beat the goalie one-on-one for the score.

Butler seemed poised to take lead in the second half and even played most of the period with a man up after Xavier goalie Joe Diederich was red carded 11 minutes into the second half of play.

The Butler strikers recorded five shots in the second, with seemingly every shot a near miss that would have broken the tie.
