Colin Christie Named Horizon League Men's Golf Athlete of the Week

April 15, 2004

Butler's Colin Christie has been named Horizon League men's golf "Athlete of the Week" for his performance at the Greg Palmer Eagle Classic. He's the second straight member of the Butler men's golf team to be honored by the league, following the selection of teammate Jonathan Novak.

Christie finished runner-up in the rain-shortened Greg Palmer Eagle Classic, hosted by Morehead State. He shot an opening round, one-under-par 71 in the rain at Eagle Trace Golf Course, and that effort was good enough for second place after heavy rains washed out the final two rounds. Christie was one of just two golfers to break par in the tournament, finishing two strokes behind medalist Jamie Frazier of Murray State. The Butler senior was the top finisher among the 28 Horizon League golfers playing in the tournament.

Last week, Christie shot a 77 to help Butler to a second place finish in the Big Four Tournament with DePauw, Wabash and Hanover at Crooked Stick Country Club.

Novak was named league Athlete of the Week after finishing in a tie for third in the final individual standings at the Cleveland State Men's Golf Invitational on April 2-3.
