Butler Enters Final Day Of John Piper Intercollegiate In Third Place

Senior Colin Christie claimed a share of first place and helped Butler's men's golf team to a third place team standing after the first two rounds of the 54-hole John Piper Intercollegiate Meet hosted by Bowling Green State University on Monday, Sept. 15. The 12-team tournament, which is being played at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green, Ohio, will conclude with an 18-hole round on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Christie shot an opening round two-under-par 70 and then came back with a second round 72 to finish the first day in a tie for the top individual spot in the tournament. Brian Stuard of Oakland shared first place with rounds of 73 and 69. Two other Butler golfers finished the first day among the "Top 15" individuals in the meet. Senior Jeff Chapman posted back-to-back rounds of 73 to grab a share of ninth place, while senior Jonathan Novak shot two rounds of 74 to move into a tie for the 13th spot. Oakland grabbed the team lead with a 292 in the opening round and then padded that lead with a 282 in the second round. Ohio University stands second after two rounds with a team score of 589, while Butler is two strokes back in third place. BUTLER SCORES: 1-T. Colin Christie 70-72 142; 9-T.
