Butler Leads After Two Rounds Of Horizon League Championship

April 26, 2004

Senior Jonathan Novak shot a three-under-par 69 in the second round to take over first place in the individual standings and help Butler to the top spot in the team standings after two rounds of the Horizon League Men's Golf Championship at Royal American Links in Galena, Ohio, on Monday, April 26. The 54-hole league tournament will conclude with a single, 18-hole round on Tuesday, April 27.

Novak opened the tournament with a one-under-par 71 to share first place with three other players, including senior teammate Colin Christie. He then turned in the best round of the opening day to claim a two-shot lead over Tate Prows of Wright State, heading into the final day. Christie carded an even-par 72 in the second round, and he'll begin the final round in fourth place.

Butler sophomore Will Turner will begin the final day in a tie for ninth place with a 36-hole score of 148 (75-73), while senior Jeff Chapman is tied for 18th place at 153 (77-76). Freshman Chris Spitler is tied for 21st place at 154 (77-77).

Butler was second in the team standings after the opening round with a team score of 294, but the Bulldogs stormed back with a 290 in the second round to grab a one stroke lead over Wright State (585). UW-Green Bay stands 11 strokes back at 595, followed by Cleveland State (602), Detroit (603), Youngstown State (616) and Loyola (636).
