Freshman Isaac Mulvihill shot a six-over-par 150 and tied for ninth place in the final individual standings to help Butler to a fifth place finish in the team standings at the Butler Spring Invitational golf tournament held at Prestwick Golf Club in Avon, Ind., on Monday and Tuesday, March 19-20. Cleveland State won the eight-team tournament

Mulvihill shot an opening-round 76 and then closed with a two-over-par 74 to finish six strokes off the pace. His second round score was the best recorded by a Butler player in the tournament. Jacob Scott of Cleveland State captured individual medalist honors with an even-par 144.

Sophomore Frank Rizzi finished in a tie for 13th in the individual standings with rounds of 78 and 75 (153), while senior Justin Kime tied for 20th with a 36-hole total of 155 (79-76). Junior Abe Mulvihill tied for 24th with scores of 80 and 78 (158) and freshman Kyle Thomas tied for 42nd place with a final total of 166 (82-84).

Butler head coach Steve Jones also entered nine players as non-scoring individuals. Senior Chris Spitler and sophomore Kevin Sasena led that group with identical scores of 161. Spitler carded rounds of 83 and 78, while Sasena posted scores of 81 and 80. The two Butler players tied for 32nd place.

Thomas Pechin tied for 36th place with a 36-hole score of 162 (81-81), Michael Poteracki tied for 40th at 164 (78-86), John Graham Summers tied for 42nd with a 166 (78-88), Michael Amore tied for 44th with a 167 (80-87), Elliot Retzlaff placed 49th at 169 (86-83), Colin Quinn tied for 51st with a score of 172 (86-86) and Kevin Swanson finished 54th with a 174 (84-90).
 

 

Oakland University finished runner-up to Cleveland State, followed by Cincinnati, UW-Green Bay, Butler, IUPUI, IPFW and Robert Morris.
