Bulldogs Drop 24-3 Decision At Morehead State

Oct. 20, 2007

Box Score

Quarterback Brian Yost threw three touchdown passes and host Morehead State used a rock-solid defensive effort to hand Butler a 24-3 setback at Jayne Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 20. It was the fourth consecutive Pioneer Football League loss for the Bulldogs, who opened the season with four straight non-conference wins.

Yost, who completed 18 of 30 passes for 197 yards, provided all the offense the Eagles (5-2, 3-1 PFL) needed. He tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to Eric Fitzpatrick to cap a 71-yard drive just 4:45 into the game. That opening touchdown proved to be the winning score. Yost added a 24-yard scoring aerial to Nick Feldman in the second quarter and a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dontae Gibson in the final period. Mason Webb provided Morehead State's remaining points with a 25-yard field goal in the third quarter.

The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in the PFL in rushing defense, lived up to their defensive reputation. Butler managed just 53 yards in total offense, which included a minus 38 yards rushing. Morehead State had five quarterback sacks in the game.

Butler avoided a shutout early in the fourth quarter on a 32-yard field goal by junior Jordan Quiroz. The Bulldogs had marched to the Morehead State 10-yard line, but lost four yards on three plays from there and had to settle for the field goal.

Butler quarterback T. J. Brown completed 15 of 28 tosses for 91 yards in the game. Wide receiver Nate Miller caught four of Brown's passes for 18 yards, while senior Dan Bohrer had three catches for 30 yards. Tailback Scott Gray managed just 13 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Linebacker Mike Bennett and safety Dale Murzyn shared Butler's lead in tackles with nine apiece

The Bulldogs, coming off three consecutive road contests, will play their final home contest of the season against Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 27. That contest is slated for 1 p.m. at the Butler Bowl.
