Butler's Brandon Polk Named To All-Horizon League Team
Feb. 28, 2005 Butler junior Brandon Polk was named to the men's basketball All-Horizon League Team, selected by league coaches, sports information directors and media. The 6-6 forward earned second team all-league recognition, and he was named to the league's All-Newcomer Team. He was the lone Butler player recognized on the league honor squad. Polk, a transfer from Redlands Community College, leads the Bulldogs and ranks ninth in the Horizon League in scoring with a 13.3 average. He leads the league in field goal shooting with a .586 mark and he's tied for fifth in the circuit in blocked shots (0.81). The Butler forward was named Horizon League Co-Player of the Week for his performance in Butler's victories over Youngstown State and UIC last week. He matched his career scoring high with 24 points at Youngstown State and then set a new career-high with 27 points against UIC. He shared Player of the Week honors with Cedrick Banks of UIC. Named first team all-league were Ed McCants of UW-Milwaukee, Blake Schilb of Loyola, Joah Tucker of UW-Milwaukee, Javier Mendiburu of UW-Green Bay and Banks. Joining Polk on the second team were DaShaun Wood of Wright State, Omari Westley of Cleveland State, Brandon Cotton of Detroit and Benito Flores of UW-Green Bay. The All-Newcomer Team included Cotton, Flores, Raheem Moss of Cleveland State and Zach Williams of Wright State, in addition to Polk. The league's All-Defensive Team was made up of Banks, Ryvon Covile of Detroit, Walt Chavis of Cleveland State, James Thues of Detroit and Armond Williams of UIC. McCants was named league Player of the Year, while Cotton was picked as the league's Newcomer of the Year. UW-Milwaukee head coach Bruce Pearl was named league Coach of the Year.
