Pat Neshek Sets Butler Strikeout Record

May 24, 2002

Junior right-handed pitcher Pat Neshek led Butler to an opening round victory in the Horizon League Tournament on Thursday, May 23, and became Butler's all-time strikeout leader in the process. Neshek chalked up six strikeouts in Butler's 1-0 victory over Youngstown State, boosting his career strikeout total to a school-record 280.

The previous Butler record for career strikeouts was 277, set by Steve Magill, 1996-98. It took Neshek just three seasons to top Magill's four-year record. Neshek now holds Butler's single game (18 vs. Detroit, 4/15/01), single season (118 in 2001) and career records for strikeouts.

Neshek has 94 strikeouts this season. He had a single game high of 12 strikeouts against Youngstown State on April 26. The hard-throwing Butler hurler has had at least 10 strikeouts in five of his 12 starts this season. His 94 strikeouts on the year ranks second in the Horizon League.
