Bulldogs To Play At Victory Field

TAKIN' IT DOWNTOWN: Butler's baseball squad will have a chance to play in one of the finest minor league baseball parks in America when it hosts IPFW at Victory Field in Indianapolis on Wednesday, May 12. The non-league game at the home of the Triple A Indianapolis Indians will start at 3 p.m. Gates to the ballpark will open at 2 p.m., and admission is $2 for adults and children 12 and under free. The Bulldogs have played a game at Victory Field every year since the park opened in 1997.

LEAGUE RACE: The Bulldogs (21-24, 8-8 Horizon League) will return to Horizon League play with a four-game series at Wright State (19-28, 8-9 HL), May 14-16. The two squads will meet in a single game at Nischwitz Stadium on Friday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. (EDT), and then play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 15, beginning at 12 noon. The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday, May 16, at noon. Butler currently stands third in the league standings, while Wright State is fifth.
 

 

HARD HITTING: Senior Justin Mckinley batted .526 in Butler's five games last week, including a double, triple and two home runs. He slammed a three-run, home run in the seventh inning to lead the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind, 10-6 victory over league-leading UIC in the first game of a four-game series. The Butler second baseman was four for four with four RBI's and three runs scored in the win. McKinley finished the series at UIC with seven hits in 14 at bats. He also had three hits, including a home run, in Butler's non-league game against Evansville earlier in the week. Over the five contests, McKinley compiled a 1.000 slugging percentage! He has hit safely in six straight games and in 10 of Butler's last 11 outings.

BULLDOG BITS: Sophomore Luke Behning picked up his sixth save of the season in Butler's win at UIC, breaking the school single season record for saves. Behning had shared the Butler record with Neal Walther (2001) and Steve Magill (1998)...Senior centerfielder Matt Crews has played in 44 games this season and handled 109 fielding chances without an error. He has not committed an error in Butler's last 67 games..Senior Justin Mckinley has climbed into third place in the Horizon League in hitting. McKinley is batting .383 on the year, and he trails only Justin Johnson of UIC (.391) and Charlie Anderson of Detroit (.390)...Sophomore left-handed pitcher Craig Costello picked up his sixth win of the season at UIC. He's tied for third in the Horizon League in victories...Senior right-hander Randy Miles continues to lead the Horizon League in lowest opponents' batting average. Butler foes are batting just .186 against Miles...Butler leads the Horizon League in triples (15), and the Bulldogs are second in steals (55).
