Northrop High School Baseball Player Commits To Butler
April 14, 2004 Alex Rinearson, a top baseball prospect at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne, will continue his baseball career at Butler University. The talented first baseman committed to the Bulldogs and will join head coach Steve Farley's program for the 2004-05 season. Rinearson has been a four-year member of the baseball team at Northrop, and he's also been a member of the Indiana Bulls summer baseball squad. He's a recipient of the A. J. Zapp Award, and he received all-tournament recognition at the NABF World Series in both 2002 and 2003. Rinearson also was a basketball letterwinner at Northrop.
The Northrop senior will contend for a starting position at first base with the Bulldogs next season. He's the second Northrop player to join Farley's program over the past decade, following left-handed pitcher Ryan Harber (1996-98). The 1998 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year, Harber signed a profession contract with the Florida Marlins after being taken in the seventh round of the 1998 Major League Draft.
