Butler Cross Country Athletes Honored

Oct. 3, 2007

Senior Kent Wories and junior Andy Baker picked up individual Horizon League honors for their performance at the Notre Dame Invitational. Wories was named Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, while Baker was tabbed as the league's Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Wories ran the second-fastest time of his career and finished as Butler's third scoring runner at the 52nd running of the Notre Dame Invitational. His time of 25:53 was good for 114th place in the Men's Blue Race, which featured six nationally-ranked teams.

An honor student, Wories carries a 3.965 grade point average as a finance major. He has been named to the Horizon League Academic All-League Team, as well as the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and the Butler Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Last year, he was recognized as a Josten's Scholar-Athlete.

Baker was the top Butler runnner at the Notre Dame Invitational. Competing in his first meet this fall, he placed 97th out of 178 runners with a time of 25:31.

The two Butler runners helped the Bulldogs to a 20th place team finish in the nationally-prominent meet.
